Well known for its natural, pastoral beauty, amazing châteaux and postcard perfect towns, the Loire Valley is also the place those in the know go to for the dazzling quality, variety and affordability of its wines. The length of the river, and the varied terrain, geology and climates through which it flows, make the Loire Valley the only region in France to produce excellent wines of every variety. Red, white or rosé, still or sparkling, dry or sweet, the Loire Valley wines can often be the very best of their kinds.

The reliably cool climate of the Loire insures that the wines, no matter how ripe the grapes are picked, will always retain that crucial bit of lean, crackling acid that balances out the fruit and alcohol. While many Loire Valley wines can age magnificently, most can (and arguably should) be consumed and enjoyed soon after they're released. Getting back to that acid - these wine usually show their best stuff with food, and typically possess enough punch and body to stand up to even the most robust dishes. These are not trophy wines to be stashed in the cellar, these are fun, affordable wines to be quaffed now. Stop by the shop for your box soon.

2008 Domaine Guindon, Muscadet
(Coteaux de la Loire)

Muscadet, a white wine from the western part of the Loire Valley, is made from a grape called Melon de Bourgogne. More Muscadet is produced than any other Loire Valley wine and it is the ideal match for the regions rich abundance of fresh seafood. Made from organically grown grapes, this wine has been made in the “sur lie” style. This means that after fermentation, the wine is allowed to rest on the yeast cells, giving the wine more flavor, texture and body. This wine has subtle aromas of vanilla and orange rind, a round, supple mouthfeel and flavors of lemon cream and mineral.

2008 Domaine Brazilier, Rouge
(Coteaux du Vendomois)

This red blend is made from Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Pineau d’Aunis. Medium bodied with ripe flavors of black cherry, and raspberry, this wine has a lingering, somewhat spicy finish

2008 Domaine de Bernier, Chardonnay
(Vin de Pays du Val de Loire)

This crisp, fresh tasting Chardonnay is made without the use of oak. Bright flavors of tart apple, pear and citrus combine with ample acidity. The Bernier estate, situated in the Nantes region of the Loire Valley, has vineyards that benefit from cooling Atlantic breezes.

2008 Domaine Guindon, Gamay Rosé
(Coteaux D’Ancenis)

This dry Rose wine is made from 100% Gamay. Vibrant flavors of wild strawberry and juicy watermelon make this the ideal summer wine. Extremely versatile with food, this wine will pair with everything from seafood, to grilled burgers, sausages and pizza.

2008 Couly-Dutheil, Les Gravieres
(Chinon)

Couly-Dutheil has been a family owned and operated estate since 1921, and is recognized as being one of the top producers of Chinon. The estate is dedicated almost exclusively to growing Cabernet Franc, which this wine is made from. This complex wine has flavors of red currant, boysenberry and light notes of fresh herbs.

2007 Patient Cottat, Sauvignon Blanc
(Vin de Pays du Val de Loire)

The Fournier Family has been farming and producing wine in and around the area of Sancerre for generations. The grapes for this wine come from their vineyard sites in Verdigny and the prestigious Sancerre region. Soft mineral notes combine with flavors of melon, orange and lemon. This refreshing Sauvignon Blanc has lively acidity and a clean, fresh finish.
